“Discovery is seeing what everyone else saw and thinking what no one thought.” ~ Albert von Szent-Györgyi
What
do the newest: Cell phone, home computer; hair style, book, scientific discovery,
and article of clothing all have in common? They are all extremely similar to and based
upon their predecessors. The “NEWEST Trend” is only a slight
altercation of the last model, but that is what makes all the difference. As Isaac Newton reflected, “If I have seen further
it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Every
day this process causing change
thorough improvement takes place, it’s intriguing, it’s inspiring, it’s innovation! Innovation is everywhere from technology to methodology,
from industry to physics; from day to day innovation has its’ way. But innovation isn’t just the next random big
idea, it’s a process, well defined operation established in hard work and creativity.
Innovation
consists of four basic concepts: acquisition,
association, comprehension, and improvement.
First you must acquire a
common problem which is relevant, and prevalent in society. Next associate
the problem with its solutions; spend some time to find out how the problem is
currently being solved, this will allow you to sample the “Productivity and
Complications” of other’s work in the field.
By gaining a general oversight on the problem and its solutions you will
be better prepared to create a new solution by mixing bits and pieces of other
solutions and then maybe a little bit of something new you may ‘came up with along the way’. Innovation requires an attitude of dedication, and deliberation and is part of a much larger process which I call Independent research.
Independent research, as I see it comes
as a cycle of 4 D's, which are: Discovery,
Document, Display, and Develop[1]. Essentially, Discovery = Innovation + Inspiration;
whilst, Documentation helps you Display your Discovery so it can become further
Developed. ~ For more information see the
citation below.
All in all innovation maybe the key to
unlocking your next big idea! So be
creative and get out there and change the world. “The results you achieve
will be in direct proportion to the effort you apply.” ~ Denis Waitley

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves
this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the
Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But
as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” ~ NIV Joshua
